A Weekend of Awakening: The Northland Holistic Expo & the August Eclipse
29–30 August 2026 | Kerikeri | FREE ENTRY
What happens when hundreds of people come together with an intention to explore healing, consciousness, wellbeing and personal transformation — at the same time as we move through one of the most interesting eclipse seasons of 2026?
Perhaps something worth paying attention to.
The Northland Holistic Expo returns to Kerikeri on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, bringing together practitioners, healers, readers, teachers, makers and people from across the holistic community.
And this year, the timing is particularly intriguing.
Just one day before the Expo, on Friday 28 August, Aotearoa experiences a lunar eclipse.
August 2026 contains both a total solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse — creating what astrologers and many spiritual traditions regard as an especially significant period for reflection and transition.
So perhaps this is more than just a weekend at the Expo.
Perhaps it is an invitation to pause, listen inwardly and ask:
What am I ready to release?
What am I ready to remember?
And what am I ready to create next?
🌑 First, what is actually happening in the sky?
Let’s separate the astronomy from the metaphysics.
On 12 August 2026, there is a total solar eclipse somewhere along its global path. Later in the month, on 28 August, there is a lunar eclipse.
The August 28 eclipse occurs when the Earth, Sun and Moon become aligned so that the Moon passes through Earth’s shadow.
For Northland, this particular eclipse is relatively subtle. It is classified as a penumbral lunar eclipse, meaning the Moon passes through the lighter outer portion of Earth’s shadow rather than moving deeply into the dark umbral shadow.
In Northland, the eclipse begins at approximately 5:59pm NZST and continues until around 7:01pm.
Because the Moon is very close to the horizon when the eclipse is at its maximum, finding a location with a clear view toward the eastern horizon will give you the best opportunity to observe it.
And there is something rather beautiful about that timing.
The Expo begins the very next morning.

🌕 What does an eclipse mean on a physical level?
From a scientific perspective, an eclipse is an astronomical alignment — not a mysterious energy event.
A lunar eclipse does, however, produce measurable physical changes in the environment.
The most obvious is the dramatic change in the amount and distribution of light reaching the Moon and, during deeper eclipses, the night environment around us.
During lunar eclipses, scientists can also study Earth’s atmosphere because sunlight passing through Earth’s atmospheric edge illuminates the Moon. The resulting light carries information about atmospheric gases and composition.
The gravitational relationship between the Earth and Moon also continues throughout the eclipse, just as it does during every other full Moon. There is no established scientific evidence that a lunar eclipse causes a special physiological or energetic effect on human beings.
That distinction is important.
But it doesn’t mean we can’t find meaning in the experience.
Human beings have looked to the heavens for thousands of years as a way of understanding cycles, change and our place within something much larger than ourselves.
And that brings us to the metaphysical perspective.
✨ The metaphysical meaning of the lunar eclipse
Across many spiritual and esoteric traditions, eclipses have been regarded as periods of intensified transition.
The symbolism is particularly powerful with a lunar eclipse.
The Moon is traditionally associated with:
- emotions
- intuition
- the subconscious
- memory
- the inner world
- feminine/receptive energy
- cycles and renewal
- things that are normally hidden from conscious awareness
The temporary shadow passing across the Moon can therefore be viewed symbolically as an opportunity to look into our own “shadow” — the parts of ourselves we may normally avoid, suppress or overlook.
Rather than seeing this as something negative, we can view it as an invitation.
What is ready to be seen?
What is ready to be acknowledged?
What have I outgrown?
What am I still carrying that no longer belongs to me?
In many contemporary spiritual interpretations, eclipse periods are therefore associated with release, revelation, redirection and transformation.
These are metaphysical interpretations rather than scientifically established effects — but they can provide a meaningful framework for personal reflection.
☀️ From Solar to Lunar: A Month of Illumination and Release
The symbolism becomes even more interesting when we consider the two August eclipses together.
A solar eclipse occurs at the New Moon, when the Moon moves between Earth and the Sun.
Symbolically, the Sun is often associated with:
identity • vitality • consciousness • purpose • expression • life force
The Moon is associated with:
emotion • intuition • subconscious patterns • receptivity • inner life
So, within an esoteric framework, the movement from solar eclipse to lunar eclipse can be seen as a symbolic journey:
☀️ Solar Eclipse
What am I becoming?
🌕 Lunar Eclipse
What am I ready to release?
This makes the final weekend of August a beautiful time to step back and consider what has shifted within you over the preceding weeks.
Perhaps something has become clearer.
Perhaps an old pattern has surfaced.
Perhaps a relationship, belief, habit or direction no longer feels aligned.
Or perhaps you simply feel called toward something new.
🌿 And then comes the Northland Holistic Expo…

This is where the timing gets particularly interesting.
The Expo isn’t simply a place to shop.
It is an opportunity to experience.
You can explore different approaches to wellbeing, meet practitioners, listen to ideas, experience meditation, discover new perspectives and connect with people who are also interested in conscious living.
The Expo offers free entry, with the event running from 9am–4pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
And perhaps the best way to approach the weekend is not to try to do everything.
Instead, come with an intention.
🔮 How to Make the Most of the Eclipse Energy at the Expo
Whether or not you personally believe that eclipses carry energetic significance, you can use the weekend as a powerful container for reflection and intention.
1. Come with a question
Before you arrive, ask yourself one simple question.
It could be:
What am I ready to let go of?
Or:
What wants to emerge in my life now?
Or simply:
What do I need to know?
You don’t necessarily need an answer.
Sometimes the value is in asking the question.
2. Don’t rush
Give yourself permission to wander.
Stop at the stall that catches your attention.
Talk to someone whose work interests you.
Try something you’ve never experienced before.
Sometimes intuition doesn’t arrive as a dramatic “knowing”.
It can simply be:
“I’m strangely drawn to that.”
Follow the curiosity.
3. Experience rather than consume
There will be plenty to see and discover, but try not to turn the Expo into a shopping expedition.
Allow yourself to experience.
Sit quietly.
Listen to a talk.
Try a meditation.
Have a conversation.
Receive a treatment if something feels appropriate.
Notice what happens in your body and emotions.
The most valuable thing you take home may not be something you purchased.
It may be a realisation.
4. Give yourself some quiet space
With so much stimulation around you, take breaks.
Find somewhere peaceful.
Close your eyes.
Take several slow breaths.
Put your attention into your body.
Ask:
“How am I actually feeling?”
Not what you think you should be feeling.
Not what someone else says you should be feeling.
Just notice.
5. Use the free talks as stepping stones
The Expo’s Talking Tent provides a wonderful opportunity to explore subjects you might never otherwise encounter.

And there is no need to believe everything you hear.
Listen.
Question.
Feel.
Research.
Take what resonates and leave what doesn’t.
That is part of the journey.
🌕 Create Your Own Eclipse Ritual
You don’t need an elaborate ceremony.
In fact, something very simple can be more powerful.
Before the Expo
Write down three things:
1. Something I am ready to release.
2. Something I want to understand more deeply.
3. Something I want to create or experience.
Fold the paper and keep it with you.
Then spend the Expo exploring those three themes.
🔥 Release
The lunar eclipse can become a symbolic marker for letting go.
Perhaps it is an old story you keep telling yourself.
A belief about who you are.
A habit.
A fear.
A relationship dynamic.
A version of yourself that you’ve already outgrown.
You don’t have to force anything.
Simply acknowledge:
“I am willing to release what no longer serves my highest good.”
🌱 Recalibrate
One of the most beautiful aspects of a holistic event is the opportunity to experience different modalities.
You may discover something that changes how you think about your body.
You may learn something that changes how you meditate.
You may meet someone who opens a new door.
Or you may simply realise that something you already knew deep down is true for you.
Allow the weekend to become a recalibration.
✨ Set an Intention
Rather than making a long list of things you want, try choosing one quality you want to embody.
Perhaps:
clarity
peace
courage
joy
abundance
love
creativity
connection
freedom
Then ask yourself:
“What would my life look like if I lived from this quality?”
That’s where intention becomes more than wishful thinking.
It becomes a direction.
🌌 The Bigger Perspective
Perhaps the greatest gift of an eclipse is perspective.
We spend so much of our lives caught up in deadlines, responsibilities, relationships, worries and plans.
And then something happens in the sky that reminds us:
We are living on a small planet, orbiting an ordinary star, surrounded by an unimaginably vast universe.
The Earth is moving.
The Moon is moving.
The Sun is moving.
Everything is in motion.
And so are we.
Nothing stays exactly the same.
Sometimes transformation isn’t about becoming somebody completely different.
Sometimes it is about remembering who you were before you became disconnected from yourself.
💫 Come Curious. Leave Inspired.
The Northland Holistic Expo is an invitation to explore.
Explore healing.
Explore consciousness.
Explore natural wellbeing.
Explore different perspectives.
Explore your own inner world.
And perhaps, arriving just after an eclipse, give yourself permission to explore something even more fundamental:
What is the next chapter of my life asking me to become?
Come for a talk.
Come for a treatment.
Come to discover something new.
Come to meet like-minded people.
Come simply because you need a day away from ordinary life.
Whatever brings you through the doors, allow yourself to be open to what happens.
You never know which conversation, experience or unexpected encounter might become the beginning of something new.

And if you want to make the weekend even more meaningful, look up at the Moon on Friday evening.
The eclipse may be subtle from Northland — but perhaps its greatest value isn’t what happens in the sky.
Perhaps it is what it inspires us to notice within ourselves.
See you at the Expo. 🌕✨
